Fans of South Park, the revolutionary and often controversial animated series from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have been patiently awaiting a new video game from the creators that would allow them to experience true interaction with their favorite characters.
After today, they will have to wait no longer.
South Park: The Stick of Truth hits stores today for the PC, XBox, and for the PS3 platforms, and the creators of the show promise players a South Park experience that is far superior than other titles that have carried the show’s name in the past. The game, which will be released by Obsidian Entertainment and Ubisoft, has been years in the making, and those who love the show will thrill to the number of characters in the game, as well as its options and 2-D game play, which has always been an integral part of the South Park universe.
Parker and Stone Stay True to Their Creation
Parker and Stone know that South Park: The Stick of Truth has been a long time in coming, but they good reason to take their time in creating this new game. They felt that previous South Park video games that had been licensed were inferior and lacked any real connection to the show beyond using the characters’ images. Even the first highly-anticipated game that was released in 1998 was met with a lukewarm reception from fans, who felt like they were going through the motions of a typical video game formula that really didn’t have much to do with the show.
In South Park: Stick of Truth, these problems have been eliminated and players interact with the characters in their original 2-D format as the new kid in town who must quest along with Cartman, Kyle, and Stan in a role-playing fantasy that will seem very familiar for fans of the show. With all of the characters that were brought into this game, the time that Parker and Stone took to create a game that fans would clamor to play was obviously well spent.
