No More Online Gameplay for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS

Nintendo terminates online gameplay for the Wii and the Nintendo DS.

Hey everyone, Steven here from The Trend Guys and I’m bringing you one of the hottest trends in video gaming.

Previous version of Nintendo game systems, such as the Wii and DS employed GameSpy’s technology for matchmaking and what not for people that wanted to play their games online. However, these services are being shut down as of today, May 21st. In other words, you won’t be able to play online with other people on your Nintendo Wii or your Nintendo DS any longer.

Honestly, that kind of sucks, because the Wii was vastly more popular than the Wii U, so I’m sure there are still plenty of people that take advantages of online gameplay on their Wii and Nintendo DS, but they’re basically screwed now. There are tons of games for the Wii and Nintendo DS that have online gameplay features that will be affected by this update.

Even though you won’t be able to participate in online gameplay on the Wii and Nintendo DS any longer, you’ll be happy to know that the Wii Shop and the Nintendo DS shop will still be available to you.

Will the Wii U and 3DS be affected by this update?

Nintendo decided to go in-house with the online services for the Wii U and 3DS, so you have absolutely nothing to worry about and you won’t be at the mercy of third party services.

So, what did Nintendo have to say about this whole situation? Check it out:

We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of our company’s legacy systems. Your enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity and the passion of Nintendo fans. – Taken from the Nintendo website.
