Michelle Obama made her fourth appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to promote the five year anniversary of her Let’s Move health and fitness campaign. The campaign is an anti-childhood obesity initiative which encourages persons to keep active and live a healthy lifestyle. The First Lady of the United States challenged Ellen to perform the GimmeFive dance and were joined with some All- Stars of So You Think You Can Dance. They all took the stage head-bopping and hip-shaking to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ latest hit, “Uptown Funk”.
This isn’t the first time Michelle Obama and Ellen competed as the two sat down and argued who won their last challenge as in 2012, they both went toe-to-toe in a push-up competition
For the GimmeFive challenge, people are asked to share five things they’re doing to stay active. Beyonce, Hugh Jackman, Dwyane Wade, Ryan Seacrest, Nick Jonas, and even the astronauts on the international space shuttle were some of the people mentioned we were also taking part in the GimmeFive campaign.
If you have never seen Obama in action, you should consider watching the video that made headlines in 2011 of her dancing “The Dougie” with a group of Washington Middle School students.
The GimmeFive dance will be performed live during the White House Easter Egg Roll scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2015 by the So You Think You Can Dance All-Stars and Michelle Obama herself.
Watch Obama groove as her appearance airs live on “Ellen” Monday, March 16.
